I used the recent Elearning Heroes Challenge (no. 77) as a jumping board for storytelling with emoji. Inspired by the interview video with the creator of Emoji Dick, I wanted to talk a bit more about instructional designers as makers and why I think that this is an important part of practice and learning for every instructional designer.
Besides being able to create my own icons relatively quickly with the simplicity of emoji and flat design, one of the major takeaways for me with this project is the the success with which I was able to combine simple images, short sentences, and the intimacy and warmth of voice (edited to sound like a telephone call), to create an engaging story.
